From installation to your first programming schedule. Follow the sections in order when setting up a new station.
Follow the sections in order when setting up a new station.
WavuWebTv runs inside Docker. You must have Docker installed and running on the machine that will host your station before running the installer.
If Docker is not installed, the installer stops with
Docker is not installed and does not proceed.
Install Docker first, then continue.
Install Docker Desktop. Download: docs.docker.com/desktop/setup/install/windows-install
Install Docker Desktop for Mac. Download: docs.docker.com/desktop/setup/install/mac-install
Install Docker Engine (not Docker Desktop). Install instructions: docs.docker.com/engine/install
Choose the instructions for your distribution (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, etc.). After installation:
sudo systemctl enable --now dockerdocker group so the installer can run without sudo:
sudo usermod -aG docker $USER
β then log out and log back in for the change to take effect.docker compose plugin is installed: docker compose versionOpen a terminal (PowerShell on Windows, Terminal on macOS, or your shell on Linux) and run:
docker version
You should see output with both a Client section and a Server section. If the Server section says "Cannot connect to the Docker daemon," Docker Desktop is not running β start it and wait for it to finish loading, then try again.
Also run:
docker compose version
You should see a version number starting with v2. If it says "docker: 'compose' is not a docker command," you have an older Docker installation β update to the current Docker Desktop or Docker Engine release.
Your station runs inside Docker. If Docker stops, your station stops. Two things to configure once after installation:
Open Docker Desktop β Settings β General β enable Start Docker Desktop when you sign in to your computer.
On Windows, Docker Desktop only starts after a user logs in. For a station that must be available 24/7, either leave the operator session logged in, or configure Windows to auto-login that user. Otherwise your station will be offline after any reboot until someone logs in.
Confirm Docker starts on boot: sudo systemctl is-enabled docker
should print enabled. If it prints disabled, run
sudo systemctl enable docker.
Docker Desktop defaults to 2 GB of memory and 2 CPU cores. That is not enough for a station that runs live broadcasting, video transcoding, and the admin console simultaneously.
Open Docker Desktop β Settings β Resources and set:
Click Apply & Restart.
Linux does not have these per-VM limits β Docker Engine uses the host's full resources directly. The 4 GB / 2 CPU minimum applies to the host machine either way.
Your WavuWebTv installation begins with the package and passkey provided with your purchase.
You will receive:
The package will look similar to:
wavuweb-dist-0.1.5.tar.gz
Your browser will normally save it to your Downloads folder.
Open Downloads, right-click the .tar.gz file and select
Extract Allβ¦.
This creates a folder similar to:
Downloads\
wavuweb-dist-0.1.5\
cd ~/Downloads
tar -xzf wavuweb-dist-0.1.5.tar.gz
cd wavuweb-dist-0.1.5
.\install.ps1
bash install.sh
The installer asks:
Install WavuWebTv to which directory? [C:\WavuWebTv]
Press Enter for the default location, or type another location such as:
D:\WavuWebTv
The installer will request:
MEDIASOUP_ANNOUNCED_IPOnce the required information is entered, the installer prepares the station, obtains the required application images, configures the station, and starts the WavuWebTv services.
Internet live broadcasting has additional network requirements. The public station URL alone does not guarantee that WebRTC live broadcasting will work.
Open the public station URL you entered during installation.
https://yourstation.example.com
You should see your station's public landing page.
Administrator access begins from the station page. Click the Login button.
Select Verified User from the available login options.
At the bottom of the Verified User area, click Admin Login.
Enter the administrator password you created during installation. After successful authentication, you will enter the WavuWebTv administration area.
It controls access to your station's administrative functions.
After logging in, establish how your station identifies itself to viewers. Open Admin β Identity.
Enter the name you want viewers to see as the name of your station, then click Save.
Add a short description explaining what your station is about, then click Save.
The channel description is displayed on the public landing page.
Under Logo, click Upload and select your station logo.
Supported formats:
Under Favicon, click Upload and select your favicon. A favicon of 32Γ32 pixels or larger is supported.
You can optionally upload a short transition video to play between programs on the public landing page.
If no transition video is provided, programs advance directly without an interstitial.
Open Admin β Terms & Policies.
Review the available policy settings and enter the information appropriate for your station.
Your policies should clearly address the rules that apply to your station, including as appropriate:
You do not configure storage during this step. Installation has already established the station's storage.
Storage is your station's content library. This is where you upload and keep the content belonging to your station.
Content uploaded to Storage is not automatically placed into the station's programming schedule.
Open Admin β Storage and upload the media you want your station to use.
This might include:
Uploaded content can remain in Storage without being scheduled. This lets you build your content library first and decide later when individual items should become part of your station's programming.
Once you have content in Storage, you can decide what becomes part of your station's programming.
Open Admin β Schedule.
Your available content library. Content can remain here without being part of the station's current programming.
Content you have placed into programming. This is where you manage scheduled content and its availability.
Use the Schedule area to review your programming, add content to the schedule, and manage the availability of scheduled content.
Open Admin β Operator.
The Operator page controls the station's scheduling mode. You can choose:
The station handles scheduling automatically according to the programming available to it.
Automatic scheduling and operator control work together, allowing routine automation while retaining operator intervention.
The operator has direct control over station programming.
Use Automatic when you want the station to continue operating without manually controlling every programming decision.
Use Hybrid when you want the station to handle routine scheduling automatically while retaining the ability to intervene.
Use Manual when you want direct control over what happens with your station's programming.
Storage is your content library. Schedule is your programming. Operator controls how scheduling runs.
Live broadcasting has additional network requirements beyond the normal station website.
WavuWebTv uses WebRTC for live broadcasting. Internet viewers may require a reachable public IP, appropriate UDP access, and TURN relay support depending on their network.
Review the separate Live Broadcasting IP and TURN Setup guide before operating live broadcasts for public internet viewers.
That guide covers:
MEDIASOUP_ANNOUNCED_IPCheck each item as you complete your station setup.
You do not need a complete library before you begin. Establish your identity. Add your policies. Upload content. Build a schedule. Choose how you want the station to operate. Then keep building.
